Liberian gets 3 years for gun crime, could be deported - Projo 7 to 7 News Blog Rhode Island news The Providence Journal: "Patrick Johnson, 26, a Liberian national, will begin serving his federal sentence after he completes serving a state prison sentence in October, having been found to be a probation violator, Neronha said. Johnson had previously been convicted in state court for possession of narcotics with intent to distribute, a felony.
Chief Judge Mary M. Lisi of District Court imposed the new sentence.
According to Neronha, on March 9 two Providence police officers stopped a vehicle Johnson was driving erratically on Glenbridge Avenue. As the officers approached the vehicle, they saw him reaching next to the center console. When they told him to show his hands, he refused. Police saw a clear plastic bag in Johnson's left hand.
As police were removing Johnson from the vehicle he threw a clear plastic bag containing suspected marijuana from his left hand to the ground. He was then taken into custody. In searching the vehicle, officers discovered a loaded .38-caliber revolver."
