2 officers slain on I-40 drug patrol in Arkansas News for Dallas, Texas Dallas Morning News Texas Regional News: "– Two police officers looking for illegal drug smuggling on a busy Arkansas interstate were shot and killed by two men with assault rifles on Thursday, and the suspects later died in a shootout with police in a crowded Walmart parking lot, authorities said.
Police said Officer Bill Evans pulled over a white minivan with Ohio license plates while 'running drug interdiction' on Interstate 40 in east Arkansas, and Sgt. Brandon Paudert arrived moments later as backup. Two men with AK-47s got out of the van, pushed Evans to the ground and opened fire on the officers, police said.
Paudert, 39, the son of West Memphis' police chief, died at the scene, and Evans, 38, died at a hospital, authorities said."
